POPS–Jacksonville is operating within its third year of existence and the interest in program services remains phenomenal! The program maintains the capacity to serve a maximum of forty (40) students, enrolled in Jean Ribault, William M. Raines and A. Phillip Randolph High Schools. Since POPS Jacksonville’s inception, students have been provided with comprehensive character and workforce development trainings, facilitated by internal and community leaders, such as Former Senator Tony Hill, former School Board Member Betty Burney and Judge Angela M. Cox.
POPS Jacksonville’s students are provided with opportunities to explore college and career opportunities. During the 2011 – 2012 Program Year, students participated in college tours to five colleges/universities in Florida and Georgia, such as Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU), Florida State University, Savannah State University, Clark Atlanta University and Spelman and Morehouse Colleges. POPS Jacksonville students also engaged in vibrant opportunities to explore diverse careers through the POPS paid Summer Internship Program. Local corporate sponsors, such as Aetna, James Daniels Realty, Wealth Watchers, Inc., The Public Defenders Office, Duval County Health Department and Crystol’s Exquisite Catering, invested their time and expertise during the program year to ensure that POPS students were provided with exceptional employment experiences.
POPS Jacksonville students are also involved in several community service projects, including Summer Brook Health Care Center, Adopt a
Highway and serving as Pages for the Jacksonville City Council Meetings. POPS Jacksonville publishes a quarterly newsletter, entitled the “POPS Jacksonville Journal “.
