Each spring POPS embarks on taking our sophomore and junior High School students on their first college tour. It’s amazing to see the reaction of our students when stepping on a college campus for the very first time and realizing that they too can attend. Walking around witnessing students only a few years older than themselves attending classes is a life changer. Our POPS students begin to realize that this is something attainable. We work with our students early in their HS careers to begin preparations for entering college, campus life and being away from home- for some this will be the first time. Finance is often a mitigating factor in whether or not our students can attend college. So we acknowledge this early on and begin to help our students map out a plan to help them overcome this barrier. Getting good grades, extra curricula activities, writing great essays, great recommendations, applying locally and in state, are all things discussed and emphasized with our students.
